Bloody Tuesday: the House GOP Massacre - There are only 6 Republicans left in the 75 member House. Despite 15 hours a day of support from right-wing talk radio and some nasty attack literature, GOP candidates got overwhelmingly rejected last night by Rhode Island voters fed up with the Republican program. Most surprising to GOP-watchers is that Republican leaders Nick Gorham and Bruce Long both got served their walking papers and their top candidate - Jim Haldeman - got handily defeated by progressive Michael Rice. This means that there are now only 10 members of the 113-member General Assembly who are Republican. Great work, Governor Carcieri!
You would think that with numbers like this that RI would be a shining example of how liberal ideology is the way to go. Our economy should be booming our unemployment rate should be zero, the education systems should be a model for all to follow, business should be flocking to the state and we should have no debt. Hmmm why is it that this isn't the case?

Yes Megyn they are sending a message and it is loud and clear.
I guess one good thing that has come of this, the United States can no longer be accused of being a racist country. That argument is now officially off that table.
Having just watched the 30 minute "as seen on TV" emotional rant by Obama. I couldn't help but notice it was all about what the government is going to do for you and nothing about you helping yourself.
The reality of it is that all of those sad stories are nothing new. Everyone goes through tough times. Everyone has problems. It is not the responsibility of the government and tax payers to bail you out.
Why is it so difficult to get people tounderstand they are responsible for themselves?
Considering Obama's Record or lack of, and his action, I wonder if he'll support Senate Resolution 636 which states:
1. commends and expresses its gratitude to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for the service, sacrifices, and heroism that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible;
2. commends and expresses its gratitude to General David H. Petraeus, General Raymond Odierno, and Ambassador Ryan Crocker for the distinguished wartime leadership that made the success of the troop surge in Iraq possible;
3. recognizes the success of the troop surge in Iraq and its strategic significance in advancing the vital national interests of the United States in Iraq, the Middle East, and the world, in particular as a strategic victory in a central front of the war on terrorism; and
4. recognizes that the hard-won gains achieved as a result of the troop surge in Iraq are significant but not yet permanent and that it is imperative that no action be taken that jeopardizes those gains or dishonors the service and sacrifice of the men and women of the United States Armed Forces who made those gains possible.
MALINTENT, the brainchild of the cutting-edge Human Factors division in Homeland Security's directorate for Science and Technology, searches your body for non-verbal cues that predict whether you mean harm to your fellow passengers.
It has a series of sensors and imagers that read your body temperature, heart rate and respiration for unconscious tells invisible to the naked eye — signals terrorists and criminals may display in advance of an attack.
But this is no polygraph test. Subjects do not get hooked up or strapped down for a careful reading; those sensors do all the work without any actual physical contact. It's like an X-ray for bad intentions.
OK out comes my Libertarian side. This kind of thing scares the shit out of me. I say this as someone who was employed as a physical security consultant and engineer for several years.
I am of the opinion that I would rather live free and be safe in my thoughts, risking death in a terrorist attack than to live in society where every movement is watched and scrutinized by the government.
The funny thing is a system like this could potentially target someone like myself, I am constantly going though "what if" and "How would I" scenarios in my head. I used to get paid good money to do exactly that for my clients. It is part of my nature. Would this be a poential trigger for the system? What happens when they then use that as justification to go into my home and through my book collection and computer where I have volumes of technical "security information" which could be seen as potential data to be used for nafarious purposes. Couple that with my military training and then stack on my firearms collection and weapons information I have gathered over the years. If I were someone looking at me I would be a prime suspect of something, not sure what, but it doesn't look good from the outside looking in.
Both Parties are guilty for this sort of thing. The problem is the public jumps and and cries for it when something goes wrong. Most of them are sheep willing to give up Liberty for Security. Something Ben Franklin warned us about many years ago and one of my favorite quotes.
They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.
